Senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has admitted that the Assembly election results have left Congress leaders and workers disheartened. While everyone was confident about the party’s return to power, the results did not meet expectations, she said.

Ups & downs part of politics

Ups and downs are a part of politics. We will play the role of an opposition effectively by highlighting public issues and resisting the state’s erroneous policies. We will also work to strengthen the party cadre at the grassroots level. Kumari Selja, Sirsa MP

“We are talking with people about the reasons behind these surprising poll results. A review of shortcomings is also being conducted to reach a conclusion,” Selja said while speaking to media on Sunday.

Selja, who was in Rohtak for a prayer meeting, also mentioned that the Congress has submitted a representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding technical issues with electronic voting machines (EVMs) during the counting process.

When asked about the absence of an organisational structure in the Congress, Selja said, “The need for the party organisation was strongly felt during the elections. It is also the right of the party workers to gain recognition through it.”

Regarding potential changes in the party, Selja noted that any decisions would be made by the party high command.
