Congress leader’s son among two held with drugs
The district police have arrested two men, including the son of a Congress leader, after 45.60 grams of ‘chitta’ was recovered from their possession, officials said on Thursday. Congress leader Jagir Singh Mehta resigned from the post of Ghumarwin block president after his son’s arrest in the case.
The taxi of the accused was stopped for checking on the Kiratpur-Nerchowk four-lane road at Garagoda in the Swarghat area of the district on Wednesday evening. The duo was coming from Punjab and on checking, 45.60 grams of ‘chitta’ was recovered from their possession, Bilaspur Additional SP Shiv Chaudhary said.
The arrested persons were Anil Kumar and Gaurav Sharma, both residents of Ghumarwin. Following his son’s arrest, Mehta resigned as Ghumarwin block president and submitted his resignation to the state Congress president. “I am resigning from the post while discharging my moral duty as my son has been found involved in wrongful activities,” he said in his resignation letter.
