Congress leader demands better railway services for Sirsa
Senior Congress leader and advocate Sandeep Nehra, a member of the Bikaner Rail Division Passenger Advisory Committee, has written to Sirsa MP Kumari Selja, requesting the introduction of a new train from New Delhi to Sirsa via Maham, Rohtak, Hansi and Hisar. He also suggested the extension of some major trains currently culminating journey at Hisar and Bhiwani to Sirsa.
On Tuesday, Nehra, along with Station Superintendent Narendra Kumar and former divisional secretary of Uttar Paschim Railway Mazdoor Sangh (UPRMS), Bikaner Division, Yashpal Bhardwaj, inspected the Sirsa railway station. During the visit, they discussed passengers’ issues with railway officials and considered suggestions from the Daily Rail Passenger Union.
In his letter to MP Selja, Nehra emphasised the need for direct connectivity between Sirsa and other major cities. He proposed the extension of train 14891/14892, which currently operates between Jodhpur and Hisar, to Sirsa. He also extended the Kalindi Express (train numbers 14117/14118) from Bhiwani to Sirsa, allowing residents direct access to Prayagraj.
Nehra also highlighted critical infrastructure issues at the Sirsa station. He pointed out that while water hydrants have been installed, they are not functional for refilling train toilets, creating inconvenience for passengers. He urged that this issue be resolved promptly.
Additionally, Nehra noted the lack of regular checking on trains running between Bathinda and Hisar due to the absence of a checking headquarters in Sirsa. He proposed re-establishing a checking headquarters to ensure better regulation.
To accommodate longer trains, Nehra suggested extending Platform 1 by 100 meters towards the Bathinda side. He also proposed modifying Platform 2 by removing the adjacent wall and adding a new track, which could effectively create an additional platform.
These changes, Nehra argued, would enhance passenger convenience, improve connectivity and boost Sirsa’s status as a key railway hub. He urged Kumari Selja to present these demands to the Railway Minister for swift action.
