Shimla, August 10

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today said that the Congress government should stop snatching away necessary facilities provided to people by the previous BJP regime.

Thakur, in a press statement issued here, said that the government could not fulfil the guarantees that the Congress had given to people before the 2022 Assembly elections but was now snatching away the facilities that the previous BJP government had provided to them.

He said, “Was this the plan Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu talked about to increase the state’s revenue in the name of systemic change? Will the revenue of the state increase like this?”

Thakur said, “Snatching the right to treatment from patients and stopping the Sahara pension scheme on the pretext of increasing the revenue of the state is childish as well as shameful. Does the state government not have any responsibility towards needy people? If the government has to increase revenue, it should start by reducing its financial burden.”

He said, “The state’s revenue will not increase by discontinuing facilities available to people and by risking their lives. If there is need for improvement, the government should do it at its own level. The initiative for improvement comes from within.” He added, “The aim of those in the government should be to facilitate people and not own friends.”

Thakur said that Sukhu’s tenure as Chief Minister would be known for worst performance by any government of the state as not even one development work had been done and the pace of development remained zero.” He also criticised the government for taking Rs 30,000 crore loans after coming to power.

“It is very difficult to say what will be Himachal’s economic condition if the Congress government continues to take loans at this pace for the rest of its tenure,” he added.

Thakur said, “When the government is discontinuing essential schemes like Sahara and Himcare, subsidy on electricity and water supply, when no roads, bridges, drains, hospitals and schools are being built and even debris on the roads is not being cleaned, a question arises that what is the government is doing with the loan money.” — TNS
