The car of former MLA Sanjay Talwar and president of the District Congress Committee, parked outside his house in South City's Janpath Enclave, was fired at late on Friday night. He was in his house at the time of the incident.

The police, however, denied that it was a deliberate attack, saying that it was a case of accidental fire from a long-range weapon.

The incident came to light when Talwar's driver noticed the shattered glass of the car and raised the alarm on Saturday morning. The police was then informed. A bullet shell was found inside the car.

Talwar said his son and daughter-in-law, accompanied by a gunman and driver, had gone for some work and returned home around 7.30 pm. The car was parked outside their house. At around 9.15 am, the driver and gunman noticed the glass.

Sources said when the police checked the CCTV cameras, it was found that they were switched off between 11 pm and 11.30 pm. It was suspected that the firing took place around that time.

Sarabha Nagar SHO Neeraj Chaudhary said nothing suspicious was found in the CCTV cameras. It seemed to be a case of accidental fire as the bullet belonged to a long-range.315 bore weapon.
