A joint panchayat of Bahalba and Kharkara villages was held today, where we presented our viewpoint. The panchayat decided that Radha should contest as an Independent candidate. — Shamsher Kharkara, BJP rebel
The decision to field Kharkara’s wife Radha Ahlawat from Meham, which has always been a hot constituency in the state, was taken at a panchayat meeting in Bahalba village today. Kharkara had contested the last two elections from Meham as the BJP candidate and sought the party ticket for his wife Radha Ahlawat this time.
However, the BJP fielded former Indian kabaddi captain Deepak Niwas Hooda from the constituency, which was resented by Kharkara and other leaders of the party.
Kharkara revolted against the party and had been holding meetings and panchayats for the past few days. Finally, it has been decided that Radha Ahlawat will contest the election from the constituency.
BJP rebel Balraj Kundu had contested the last election in 2019 as an Independent candidate and won after defeating the Congress as well as BJP nominees. He is the sitting MLA from the constituency. He has also formed a political party and plans to contest the elections this time.
Kundu is well-known for his philanthropic activities and is a formidable candidate from the constituency. Hence, it would be interesting to note whether the voters of Meham repeat their MLA or history repeats itself.
