Following directions from the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, all Assembly segment in-charges and block presidents in Ludhiana, Khanna and Jagraon staged protests outside the offices of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) against the deteriorating law and order situation, marked by daylight murders, loot and extortion cases.

In the East constituency, Sanjay Talwar (former MLA), Maanu Khinga (Block president East 1) and Sanjeev Sharma (Block president East 2) led the protest and submitted a memorandum to the DSP. Leaders addressed the gathering, highlighting Punjab’s rising crime rate, gangsterism and fear among citizens.

They criticised the government and police administration for inaction and demanded that safety and security be restored in the state.

“Factory workers are soft target for snatchers who take away mobile phones, cash and other valuables from them. Snatchers are daringly committing crimes that they even injured

factory workers to intimidate them so that they dare not lodge any complaint,” said the protesting Congress workers.

Meanwhile, police officials who received a memorandum from the Congress workers assured that the police had already been making diligent efforts to prevent loot and snatching incidents in the city. They told the protesters that in the recent past, many snatchers were arrested and put behind the bars.
