Maintaining that Manipur people had lost faith in PM Modi and CM N Biren Singh, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge today urged President Droupadi Murmu to intervene, saying it had become “imperative to uphold constitutional propriety”.

“Through your intervention, the people of Manipur will again live a peaceful and dignified life,” Kharge said in a letter to President Murmu.

Kharge wrote he failed to understand why the PM wasn’t visiting Manipur “despite the state people wanting him to do so”. He said he felt that “deliberate acts of omission and commission had led to complete lawlessness in the northeastern state”.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
