Under the banner of “Computer Adhyapak Union Punjab”, computer teachers agitating outside the district administrative complex (DC office) here since September 1 took out a “jaago” rally through the main streets of the Chief Minister’s city on Saturday evening. A large number of computer teachers from various districts of the state took part in it.

The protesters raised voice against the alleged “false promises” made by the government to them. They have also been observing relay fast here since September 1. Today’s protest was also aimed at creating awareness among the public about their demands and “expose” the state government’s “indifferent attitude” towards them.

They alleged the AAP government was also betraying them, as done by the previous governments. They claimed they had been serving at various schools for the past 19 years, but no one had ever heard their voice to shift them to the Education Department.

Union’s district president Nardeep Sharma said the government had not extended them benefits according the Sixth Pay Commission so far. The families of 100 deceased teachers had also not been given jobs on compassionate grounds, he added.
