Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, while inspecting the construction work of the steel bridge over Sirhind Canal near Nehru Stadium, on Monday ordered officials of Rupnagar NHAI Division to complete the work by November 30 and submit the weekly progress report.

The DC issued instructions to officials of the department and representatives of the construction firm to speed up the ongoing works, saying that the work of the retaining wall of the bridge must be completed without any further delay as per the guidelines. Besides, he directed the officials to ensure that the work related to the lighting of the bridge were carried out according to the set weekly targets.

DC Jain said the construction of this four-lane steel bridge over the canal would bring relief to residents of dozens of villages and the Doaba area, including Nurpur Bedi. He said the city's traffic movement would also improve.
