Commission agents suspend procurement
Commission agents of the district today suspended paddy procurement, alleging their association’s state president Vijay Kalra had been detained and humiliated by the Makhu police.
The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of district president Sadhu Ram Bhattmajra at Sirhind grain market. Labourers and farmers joined the agents and raised slogans against the government.
Sadhu Ram said the lifting of the procured paddy was tardy and they had met the DC over the matter, but to no avail.
He said they got a call from Kalra that he had been detained and humiliated by the police. Sadhu Ram said all commission agents had decided to suspend procurement.
He said till the officials responsible for the incident were not suspended and the lifting of procured paddy was not started, they would not start procurement in the area.
