Chandigarh, December 25

Hitting back at Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, the Shiromani Akali Dal today asked Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to come clean on whether the Home Minister had held a closed-door meeting with the family and aides of gangster-turned-UP politician Mukhtar Ansari.

Randhawa has reportedly dug up an old police inquiry which states fugitive Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia had links with gangsters, especially Jagga Bhagwanpuria.

In a statement, Maheshinder Singh Grewal alleged there were reports on the Congress government resorting to sponsored acts of terrorism and sacrilege to distract public attention from its failures. He asked CM Channi to make a categorical statement as to why his Home Minister, whose duty it is to be a guardian of peace and law and order, found it necessary to meet an outlaw like Ansari. — TNS
