Jalandhar: Rahul Bagga, a student of BA 5th semester at the college, has brought pride to his institution by securing the gold medal in the hammer throw event. The competition was held at the district level as part of the Punjab Government’s ‘Kheda Watan Punjab Diya’ at the Jalandhar Sports College. The principal, Dr Neerja Dhingra, congratulated Rahul on the achievement and urged him to continue practicing with diligence for the national-level competitions. She also commended Sahil Mahay from the Department of Physical Education for his guidance and support.

The Department of Design recently organised a one-day interactive session and workshop on entrepreneurship and startups. The event featured Harleen Kaur, owner of the fashion brand ‘The Violent Dresser’ and Daljit Kaur, head designer, as resource persons. They shared insights into the fashion industry, focusing on innovative business models, technology integration and sustainability. Topics such as designing skills, marketing strategies, branding and artificial intelligence in design and social media’s impact were explored. The head of the design department, Dr Rakhi Mehta, also spoke on startup innovations. The session concluded with a question-answer round and the principal, Ajay Sareen, praised the initiative for fostering creative entrepreneurship.

The school marked World Food Day, a day aimed to raise awareness about global food security and promoting access of maintaining a healthy diet. Under the guidance of Shallu Sood, students of Class VII-A, Paavni Arora and Paavni, delivered a presentation on the day. They discussed the 2024 theme, ‘Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future’ which emphasises the universal human right to access nutritious and affordable food. The principal, Parveen Saili highlighted the importance of this day in achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. Through speeches, presentations and activities overseen by the teachers, Rajni Sharma and Parminder Vasran, the school stressed the importance of global cooperation in eradicating hunger. The vice-principal, Ramandeep and additional vice-principal, Mamta Arora appreciated the students' efforts and praised the event’s educational impact.

St Soldier College

The science department of the college organised a lecture on career opportunities for students. DAV College assistant professor, Dr Summit Jalota, was the guest speaker. He shared his knowledge on post-12th career paths in both medical and non-medical fields. Dr Jalota, who holds a PhD from NIT, Kurukshetra and has completed post-doctoral work in Italy, also spoke to students. The event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the group chairman, Anil Chopra, urged students to actively participate in such insightful sessions.
