New Delhi, August 31

A Delhi court on Saturday granted four days of CBI custody to six persons arrested in connection with the drowning of three civil services aspirants at a coaching centre’s basement in Old Rajinder Nagar. The accused—Abhishek Gupta, Deshpal Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, and Parvinder Singh—will remain in custody until September 4, 2024.

The order, issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg, follows a CBI application seeking the custodial interrogation of the accused. The court noted that the investigation, mandated by a Delhi High Court order dated August 2, 2024, necessitated a deeper inquiry into the roles and responsibilities of the persons involved, including potential criminal negligence or corrupt practices. The accused were presented in the court following the expiration of their previous judicial custody.
