Paris Olympics: CM announces Rs 1 cr each for hockey players from Punjab

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday congratulated the Indian hockey team for creating history by bagging bronze medal in the Paris Olympics. He announced that the 10 players from the state who formed part of the medal winning team would be given Rs 1 crore each, as per the state government policy.

He said the Indian players had made the entire country proud by trouncing Spain by 2-1. The players put up the finest show in the prestigious match and steered the team to victory.

Mann said India had won two consecutive medals (Tokyo and Paris Olympics) after a gap of 52 years. Prior to that, the Indian hockey team had won two consecutive medals in 1968 (Mexico) and 1972 (Munich).

The CM said the historic win would pave the way for restoring the pristine glory of the national game in the country. He said the team once again upheld the glorious legacy of great hockey players.
