Cleanliness pledge administered to people

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department Secretary Rajesh Sharma today appealed to people of the state and tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh to not throw garbage in the open from moving vehicles.

Speaking at a special cleanliness campaign held at Him Hira Haat in Naldhera under the state-level cleanliness campaign ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2024’, he urged the people to keep the state clean by putting waste in dustbin even while travelling.

The campaign was held under the theme “Swabhaav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata” where all members were administered the cleanliness pledge. The chief guest also planted a sapling under the campaign “One Tree in the Name of Mother.”

Sharma said waste management would be done in the presence of citizens and experts at various places across the state. “The waste management will focus on total cleanliness and converting waste to art. There will also be slogan writing programmes focused on cleanliness during the campaign,” he said.

Sharma interacted with the Swachhata Dal, women from National Rural Livelihood Mission and beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He said self-help groups had a very big role in the Swachhata Abhiyan.

During the cleanliness campaigns across the state, songs, dances, quiz, poetry recitation and street plays centered on cleanliness will be organised at various places with the participation of students and youth.

He said effective steps would be taken to resolve the demand of local people regarding garbage disposal. He said that many self-help groups were getting employment under the National Rural Livelihood Mission. “This is a source of livelihood for the rural areas.
