A Class X student and three others were burnt alive after the first floor of a house at Saraswati Enclave in Sector 10 area caught fire late on Friday night. A short-circuit is stated to be the reason behind the fire.

After getting information, the police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and controlled the fire after a lot of effort.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12.15 am, when all four victims were asleep in a rented room on the first floor of the house. The fire spread and the room was filled with smoke. All four were charred to death.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Shamim (22), Noor Alam (26), Sahil (24) and Aman (17), all natives of Bihar. The victims lived in the house of Rajesh Kumar Jangra.

Aman was a student while the others used to work as tailors with a garment export company. Noor Alam was married and had two daughters.

“I was sleeping in the adjoining room and got up after hearing the sounds. The room was locked from inside and filled with smoke. I raised the alarm and called neighbours, who broke open the door and pulled them out. But, unfortunately, they were dead,” said an inconsolable Mohammad Taufiq, Aman’s father.

“The post-mortem examination is being done. We have not received any complaint so far, but are investigating the matter,” said Inspector Sandeep Kumar, SHO, Sector 10-A police station.
