During scrutiny on Friday, the nomination papers of the BJP candidate from Ward No. 8 were rejected. The candidate, Kapil Sharma, faced issues with his property papers, leading to their rejection.

Following rejection, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders visited the Returning officer’s office in the west constituency where they engaged in discussions that ultimately proved inconclusive. Later, leaders and their supporters staged a protest.

According to sources, the nomination papers of the BJP candidates from Ward No. 8 and 10 had some issues during scrutiny due to incomplete information. When the candidates learnt about the development, senior BJP leaders intervened and met the Deputy Commissioner.

Although the papers of Ward 10 candidate Shruti Vij were cleared, Kapil Sharma’s papers from Ward No. 8 were not. Former Member of Parliament Shwait Malik said Sharma’s papers were rejected due to allegations of encroachment on a building. However, the building in question was actually registered in the name of Promila Sharma, not Kapil Sharma, he said.

The scrutiny committee had only one day to review the nomination papers, he said. Tomorrow being Saturday is the last day for withdrawing nominations, he added. Afterwards, election symbols would be allotted to Independent candidates.
