Civic action programme
A Civic Action Programme was organised by 92 Battalion of the BSF at Government Middle School, Rajpura. During the programme, a free medical camp, blood donation camp and cultural activities were organised, which was attended by a large number of villagers. In the cultural programme, A total of 460 patients were treated by the doctors during the medical camp. In the blood donation camp, BSF personnel and families donated blood for needy persons.
Chennai tour for girl students
An awareness tour to the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, for girl students of Sunderbani Tehsil was flagged off by the Army. The capacity building tour is a unique experience towards providing exposure to these girls about a glimpse of the development as well as the employment opportunities available for the aspiring youth of Jammu and Kashmir. During the course of the tour, the students will also interact with various senior dignitaries besides visiting places of interest and historical value in Chennai and Puducherry.
Placement of zoology lecturers
The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has placed 114 Masters/Teachers as Lecturers in the discipline of zoology in different government schools of Jammu division. The placement has been done after reports of shortage of zoology teaching staff in many government schools in Jammu region. The school directorate is also in the process of placing teaching faculty in other disciplines as well.
Financial assistance for needy
The Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) has invited applications from poor and needy students of various schools of the university to provide them financial assistance to meet out expenses. The financial assistance will cover expenses like tuition fee, examination fees, purchase of books, hostel/mess charges and clothing. The deadline for reaching applications which earlier was fixed for January 31 has now been extended up to February 14.
Awareness on air pollution
A study released by the University of Chicago has found that residents in Jammu might lose 4 years of their lives because of polluted air. The air quality life index (AQLI) developed by the Energy Policy Institute at University of Chicago (EPIC India) had recently released numbers on life expectancy being reduced in North India due to increasing air pollution and its impact on human health. An awareness workshop in this regard was conducted with the help of University of Jammu (JU) environment science department on Tuesday. The workshop was attended by JU Vice Chancellor, Prof M K Dhar and other senior faculty members of the varsity. Around 80 participants attended the workshop.
