City set to host state-level games from Nov 15
Khedan Watan Punjab Dian for volleyball and chess events will start from November 15.
The district sports department is all set to host over 3,000 players from 23 districts. Preparations have been started and six new national standard volleyball courts have been set up for the event. Earlier, there were only two.
The grounds have been measured properly, there will be zones like free zone and service zone. Poles have been installed and net will be put in place tomorrow.
Amritpal Singh, who is India’s youngest third level coach with the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB), is supervising the preparations. He said, "It is a great opportunity for players to showcase their talent and learn a lot."
This is for the first time that state level competition of volleyball is being held in Jalandhar. Last year and in 2022, the state level volleyball khedan Watan Punjab Dian was held in Faridkot.
For chess competition, 200 players will be participating.
The department has asked for water tankers and movable toilets for the players from the Municipal Corporation. To ensure that there is no mess and areas remain garbage free, a dump site will be there.
The players will be staying in hostels at sports school and Burton Park.
Gurpreet Singh, District Sports Officer, said the preparations were completed for the event.
