A delegation of the Nagrik Adhikar Manch, Mandi, has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), voicing their concerns over the proposed construction of an indoor stadium at Paddal Ground, Mandi.

The body argued that the site was of significant historical importance, having served as a refuge for the people during the 1905 earthquake, and as a base for the Army during the 1962 India-China war.

Paddal Ground is also known for hosting the famous Shivratri fair.

The organisation highlighted that many other grounds in the city had been lost to construction, leaving little space for recreational activities.

According to the organisation, they fear that if an indoor stadium is built at Paddal, there will be no suitable places left for the community to engage in sports and leisure.

The manch has urged that the stadium be relocated to another suitable site within the city, emphasising the availability of alternative locations.

They expressed hope that the government would consider their request.

The manch plans to conduct a public opinion survey to involve community members in the campaign to protect the ground. Key members of the manch, including general secretary Suresh Sarwal and senior vice-president Narender Saini, submitted the memorandum.
