Chrysanthemum exhibition kicks off at PU
Over 4,000 plants are on display at Panjab University’s 15th Chrysanthemum Exhibition that began at the Prof RC Paul Rose Garden today.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig inaugurated the weeklong show. PU Dean University Instructions (DUI) Prof Rumina Sethi presided over the function.
Ten new varieties have been added this year — June Peace, Kokka Bunmi, Journey Dark, Snow Ball, Liliput, Lalpari, Kalvin Orange, Cassagranda, Yellow Bangla and Yellow Charm. The special varieties from Pune and Nauni will also be at display. Visitors appreciated flower arrangements and were seen getting their photographs clicked.
Prof Vig appreciated the exhibits displayed at the venue and the efforts made by the PU Horticulture Division and congratulated the staff of the division for successfully organising the exhibition.
Amandeep Singla, Assistant Engineer (Horticulture) said like previous years, this edition of the exhibition had been organised by the Horticulture Division. Simultaneously, it gives a message of environment protection to the masses and an opportunity to display the best chrysanthemum collection of Horticulture Division.
The exhibition was attended by Prof Yojna Rawat, Research & Development Cell; former Vice-Chancellor Prof RC Sobti, Prof Krishan Kumar, Secretary to VC; Prof Amit Chauhan, Dean Student Welfare; Prof Naresh Kumar, Associate Dean Student Welfare; Anil Thakur, Executive Engineer; Vineet Punia, Director Public Relations; Prof Amarjit Singh Naura, president, PUTA; wardens of hostels and Anurag Dalal, president, Panjab University Student Council.
