Fatehgarh Sahib, July 12
The residents of Brahman Majra, Professor Colony, and adjoining areas protested against the Sewerage Board and Council officials today. The residents said they have to face hardships.
Agitated residents said officials are not ready to redress their grievances despite repeated requests. They said it had become difficult to go out of their houses because the streets were full of sewer water. It is difficult for schoolchildren to negotiate their way through the dirty water. Residents said the accumulated water may lead to the spread of various diseases. They said they have informed the council and departments concerned, but to no avail.
Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib MC President Ashok Sood said the council has purchased a cammy machine for Rs 55 lakh, adding that they have urged the Sewerage Department to make use of the machine to clean the sewer lines.
Sewer Board SDO Sukhpal Singh said the council has connected the waste water lines of all the houses with the main sewer, which creates a problem as dust and mud fall in the main line and choke them. He said the Cammy machine was not working properly as it could not make the required pressure.
