Jammu and Kashmir police have nabbed a man from Chhattisgarh along with 9 kg of narcotics substance. The arrest was made at a checkpoint established at Kallar Chowk on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway.

A police team was checking vehicles and frisking pedestrians when a man tried to escape from the spot after noticing police. “Noticing his suspicious movement, cops managed to intercept him and subsequently he was detained and during frisking, 9 kg ganja was recovered,” said an official.

The accused has been identified as Umesh Kumar Sahu, a resident of Chhattisgarh, who has been arrested under Section 8, 20 NDPS Act.

The recovery was by the police team under the supervision of DSP Satish Kumar and Rajouri SHO Abid Shah.

Rajouri SSP Randeep Kumar said that tightening the noose against narcotics peddlers is among the top priorities of police and a number of FIRs have been registered in this context in the recent past.

He further appealed to the people to share information of people involved in this crime and assured that their identity will be kept completely secret.
