Taking a serious note of leaking of a letter written by ADGP SK Asthana to DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota in drug cases, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi today ordered the registration of an FIR to track those behind it.
The cyber cell of the state police has been tasked to probe as to how the selective pages of the communication between the top police officers got leaked. Heads could role in the police department on the basis of a time-bound probe, said sources.
In the letter that vent viral on social media on Monday, the ADGP had cited legal hurdles in conducting reinvestigation in drug cases against a senior Akali leader.
Talking to the media after a Cabinet meeting today, CM Channi said a thorough probe was being done to get to the depth of the matter. “The leaked content was just a part of the entire communication. The relevant part, including a hand written note by the ADGP, has not been leaked,” the CM said.
Targeting the Akalis, Channi said the big fish who feared action in the drugs cases were behind the leak. “They are threatening police officers. The drugs and sacrilege cases would be taken to logical conclusion,” he said.
