Zirakpur murder case cracked, 2 held
The police claimed to have solved the blind murder case that occurred on November 7 near Chhat light point in Zirakpur by arresting two suspects today.
The suspects have been identified as Sahil Kumar (23), a resident of Kurukshetra, and Charanjit Singh alias Charan (22), a resident of Old Delhi, currently residing in LIC Colony, Kharar. A case under Sections 103, 3(5) of the BNS was registered at the Zirakpur police station on November 11.
The police had found deceased Rana Pratap Singh’s mobile phone, which the accused had used to transfer Rs 10,66,000 to Sahil’s account via an app.
The accused were presented before the court today and police remand was obtained for further investigation. The police said two more cases of robbery had been solved with the arrest of the duo.
Pramod Singh, a resident of Rajpura, had reported the brutal murder of his brother, Rana Pratap Singh, a field officer at Noor Security Services, Zirakpur.
The deceased was last seen leaving for Zirakpur on his motorcycle on November 7. On November 11, his body was found near Chhat lights in a decomposed state, with hands and legs tied. The post mortem revealed the cause of death as head injuries inflicted by a blunt object.
The investigating team, led by CIA Staff incharge Inspector Harminder Singh and Inspector Jaskamal Singh Sekhon, used technical inputs to crack the case.
The police said Sahil was currently staying at Alpha Floors, Aerocity, Mohali. He is Class 12 pass and married.
Charan, who is pursuing BCA (2nd Year) privately from Swami Vivekananda College, was arrested from LIC Colony, Kharar.
The police said the accused had met nearly three months ago during interviews at a tele-performance company in Sector 83, Mohali. After this, together, they carried out incidents of robbery and theft on the Airport Road. During the intervening night of November 7 and 8, the accused planned to commit another robbery at Chhat lights.
Spotting Rana Pratap Singh on the service road, they threatened him with sharp weapons, took him to an isolated location and attempted to extract his phone and Google Pay passwords from him. When Rana resisted, they attacked him with a brick, tied his hands and legs and killed him. Subsequently, the accused transferred Rs 10,66,000 from Rana Pratap Singh’s account to Sahil Kumar’s account using an app.
Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek said, “On September 29, they had also robbed one Vikas Dagar of Rs 28,220 near Aerocity. In mid-October, they looted Rs 50,000 from a Fortuner driver near Zirakpur, after pretending to assist him.”
