On the opening day of the 10th Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy, Yadavindra Public School, Mohali, triumphed over Saupin’s School, Sector 32, with a 31-15 verdict at the Gmada Sports Complex, Sector 78, Mohali. Nimar from YPS and Jasmira from Saupin’s School scored 10 points each for their respective U-17 teams.

In the boys’ U-17 category, Delhi Public School, Mohali, went down 16-48 against KV Ground School, Chandigarh. Swarit from the winning team remained the top scorer by contributing 14 points. In the boys’ U-14 category, Amity International School, Mohali, defeated Shivalik Public School, Mohali, 27-4. Bismeet from Amity claimed 21 points for the team.

In another match, KV Ground School defeated St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, with a 44-12 victory. Ayush led his team to win by contributing 18 points. In the girls’ U-14 category, YPS beat St Soldier School, Panchkula, 19-10 as Avantika scored 10 points. KV High Ground School outclassed St Soldier’s School, Panchkula, 44-12, as Seerat contributed 16 points in the team’s win.

In the girls’ U-12 event, St Anne’s School, Sector 32, recorded an 8-2 win over Saupin’s School, Sector 32. Ryka from St Anne’s scored six points for the winning side. Vikramjeet Singh Mamik, administrator of Vivek High School, said that the top three teams would be awarded a total prize pool of Rs 2.70 lakh. As many as 70 teams from the tricity are competing in this championship.
