World Toilet Day: Renovated toilet block inaugurated
In a significant step toward improving public sanitation, a renovated public toilet block at Sector 16 was inaugurated on World Toilet Day. Mayor Kuldeep Kumar, Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, Councillor Saurabh Joshi and Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora were present on the occasion.
The renovation, completed during Councillor Joshi’s tenure, marks a milestone in addressing public hygiene needs. The Sector 16 Market Association, led by Gurmukh Thakur, Ramesh Singhla, Dr Rawal and other key members, expressed gratitude to the Municipal Corporation and Joshi for prioritising these much-needed upgrades.
Equipped with modern amenities, the renovated toilets now feature eco-friendly fixtures, water-saving systems, better lighting and enhanced accessibility for people with disabilities. These improvements are aimed at providing a cleaner and more user-friendly environment for residents and visitors.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said reconstructed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, the toilet block has facilities for children and transgender persons also, besides provision of sanitary pads and sanitary incinerator in the women toilet block.
The commissioner said all toilet blocks in city markets and parks were Geotagged and could be located through Google Maps. He said QR codes have been provided at each block and can be scanned to report any problem, such as sewerage blockage, water leakage and missing taps.
