World Toilet Day: Chandigarh MC holds cleaning drives, honours sanitation workers
On World Toilet Day, the Municipal Corporation (MC) acknowledged and celebrated the exceptional efforts of sanitation workers in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the city’s public facilities.
To honour their selfless service, a citywide cleaning campaign was organised across 331 toilets, showcasing the power of community collaboration in promoting hygienic conditions. Members of Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and the MCC team enthusiastically participated in the drive as part of the Clean Toilets Campaign, launched under SBM (U) 2.0.
The MC, along with citizens, recognises the remarkable work of sanitation workers in maintaining public conveniences. Their tireless efforts to ensure these facilities are inclusive and accessible deserve commendation, highlighting their significant contributions to cleanliness and hygiene in Chandigarh.
MC Commissioner Amit Kumar expressed gratitude to the sanitation workers for their dedication to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, reflecting the spirit of inclusivity and accessibility for all.
The Commissioner noted that Chandigarh has 331 toilets, with an impressive 50% managed by MWAs, RWAs, SHGs and NGOs. The MCC remains committed to ensuring these sanitation facilities meet the highest hygiene and maintenance standards.
The Commissioner said Chandigarh secured third place nationwide in the Clean Toilets Challenge (CTC) held from November 19 to December 25 last year, under SBM (U) 2.0 by MoHUA. With 95% of public conveniences meeting FACES standards (Functional, Accessible, Clean, Eco-friendly and Safe), the Municipal Corporation sets a high benchmark for sanitation, hygiene, inclusivity and accessibility.
The MC invited citizens to participate in the Clean Toilets Campaign by maintaining cleanliness and proper hygiene in public restrooms.
