World AIDS Day observed
Highlighting the importance of protecting everyone’s rights to achieve the global goal of ending AIDS, World AIDS Day was observed with the theme ‘Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!’ at AIMS in Mohali.
The event began with Dr Anuradha Bhatia sensitising MBBS students about HIV prevention, the significance of early diagnosis and the management of needle stick injuries.
The students later extended their learning by sensitising the housekeeping staff, focusing on universal precautions and preventive measures.
This initiative was aimed to empowering the staff with practical knowledge and ensuring workplace safety.
The programme was planned by Dr Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal of AIMS, along with Dr Anuradha Bhatia, Associate Professor of Dermatology, and Dr Amrit, Professor and Head of Community Medicine.
Dr Bhavneet Bharti emphasised the importance of integrating the WHO’s message into the programme, which calls on leaders and citizens to address inequalities that bar the realisation of health rights and the end of AIDS.
“This year, we took the opportunity to focus on vulnerable groups within our institution, ensuring they are aware of universal precautions and their right to a safe and healthy environment,” she added.
As part of the outreach efforts, the MBBS students distributed informational pamphlets to patients and their caregivers. These pamphlets aimed to raise awareness about HIV prevention, available treatments and the importance of addressing stigma in society.
