Work to install automated street lights in Panchkula begins

16.5K lights to be replaced as part of Rs 5.5 cr project

Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal on Thursday inaugurated the work to install an Automatic Computerised Control Monitoring System (CCMS) and replace electric wires, poles at dark spots at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore.

Work has begun to replace 16,500 street lights in the city, with 7,000 already having been replaced. The remaining work is expected to be completed in four months.

Under the new system, pre-determined time will be fed into the CCMS panel to operate the lights. After connecting all the panels, the street lights can be operated from the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC). If required, the panel can be run in manual mode as well. Time will also be adjusted as per the demand of the changing seasons.

The municipal corporation, under the Divya Nagar Yojana, is setting up a command and control center for IT infrastructure to monitor the smart lighting system.

The mayor said work has begun to replace the traditional street lights with efficient LED lights, to install CCMS panels and laying cables.

“All the lights will be replaced after the tender for lights/CCMS is allotted. The aim of the Smart LED project is to ensure better lighting in the city. Wherever the lights are faulty, they will be replaced immediately. The wires of the main roads of all sectors are being replaced. There were dark spots along the cables, where there was a long distance between one pole and another, new poles will be installed there,” he added.

Councilors Ritu Goyal, Suresh Verma, Sonia Sood, Jai Kaushik, Suneet Singla, Usha Rani were also present at the event.
