Wife among three acquitted in six-year-old murder case

A local court has acquitted three persons, including a woman, in a six-year-old murder case after the prosecution failed to prove charges.

The police registered the case under Section 302 of the IPC after the body of one Dharminder was found from a park in Sector 52-D, Chandigarh, on April 10, 2018.

After investigation, the police arrested accused Ram Kumar, wife of the deceased and another person, Onkar.

The police claimed that the woman and Ram Kumar were half-siblings. The police said Ram Kumar murdered his brother-in-law Dharminder because the former was having an illicit relationship with his half-sister. Onkar was also involved in the alleged crime, the police added.

After investigation, the police filed the charge-sheet against the accused persons. Finding prima facie case, charges were framed against the accused to which they pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

Gurbir Singh Sandhu, counsel for accused Ram Kumar and woman, claimed that the accused were falsely implicated in the case. Ram Kumar is half-brother of co-accused woman and could not think of killing his brother-in-law. Otherwise also, the main witnesses have not supported the prosecution case.

On the other hand, the public prosecutor argued that the prosecution had proved the case beyond a shadow of doubt. He said blood stained clothes were recovered from the house of one of the accused. After hearing of the arguments, the court acquitted the three accused.
