A local court has acquitted three persons including a woman in a six-year-old murder case after the prosecution failed to prove charges.

The police registered the case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code after a dead body was found from a park in Sector 52-D in Chandigarh on April 10, 2018. The deceased was identified as Dharminder.

After investigation, the police arrested the accused Ram Kumar, a woman, wife of the deceased and another person Onkar.

The police claimed that co-accused wife and Kumar are siblings from the same mother and different fathers.

The officials added that Kumar committed the murder of his brother-in-law because he was having an illicit relationship with his co-accused sister.

The police said that Onkar was also involved in the alleged crime.

After investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused persons. Finding prima facie, case charges were framed against the accused to which the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

Gurbir Singh Sandhu, counsel for accused Ram Kumar and the woman, claimed that the accused were falsely implicated in the case.

Ram Kumar is the brother of co-accused woman and he could not think of killing his brother-in-law.
