Week-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations end at PU
The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, organised week-long celebrations to mark Gandhi Jayanti from September 23 to October 2.
A poem recitation, patriotic songs and on-the-spot painting competition was organised on September 25 and 26, which attracted a huge number of students from different schools of Chandigarh. An on-the-spot essay writing competition and quiz competition was organised on September 30 and October 1 for students of city colleges and university departments.
A cleanliness drive was organised around the department and its parking area, in which more than 100 students, university faculty members and non-teaching staff participated.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Anand Sharma, member, Haryana Public Service Commission, delivered a special lecture on ‘Understanding and Inculcation of Gandhian Principles Among Youth’.
Sanjay Kaushik, Honorary Director, ICSSR, Chandigarh, delivered a lecture in which he emphasised that one should always try to be ready for any adverse situation and follow Gandhian ideals in the real essence. Simrit Khalon, Dean Students Welfare (Women), Panjab University, presided over the function. In her address she highlighted the importance of this day.
