Week after death threat, gunshots fired outside firm owner’s house
Two unidentified youths fired three gunshots outside the residence of the owner of a pharmaceutical company in Sector 21 here on Thursday evening. The house owner had received death threats and a ransom call a few days ago.
The incident took place a few hours after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other BJP leaders to the city for the new state Cabinet’s oath-taking ceremony.
Manu Sahni, the owner of the pharmaceutical firm, said he had returned from the nearby market when around 7 pm, two individuals who had their faces covered came on a two-wheeler and fired gunshots in the air outside his house.
He said he ran a pharmaceutical company in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. On October 10, he had received a WhatsApp call in which the caller had demanded Rs 1 crore from him. The police in Baddi had registered a case on his complaint. Later, cops were deployed outside his house to ensure his security.
Neighbours said that the miscreants fled the scene before the police personnel could act.
Panchkula ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj and a team from the district crime branch reached the spot and started an investigation.
Two empty shells had also been recovered from the spot. Cops scrutinised the footage of the CCTV cameras installed outside the house.
A case under Section 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Snahita and the Arms Act has been registered.
