The UT Administration is considering constitution of a committee to resolve the issues being faced by the industry.
UT Adviser Dharam Pal stated this today after visiting the Industrial Area here to take stock of problems being faced by industrialists. He said during his visit, he found that industrial plots had been given on lease and many commercial activities were going on in the Ram Darbar area.
To boost industrial activity, he said he would soon ask the Industries Department to identify the issues being faced by industrialists in Chandigarh and make a presentation on how these could be resolved. The proposals of the department would be discussed with people from the industry and thereafter, a committee could be constituted to resolve these issues.
He said the recommendations of the committee would be considered before taking a final decision on providing a much-required impetus to the industry.
Pankaj Khanna, president, Industries Association of Chandigarh, said the visit of the UT top brass to the Industrial Area was a welcome step. He said the Industrial Area needed a complete makeover. Long-pending issues need swift policy action for their immediate redressal, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Administration has taken a number of initiatives to upgrade the infrastructure in the city to boost economic growth in the region. Chandigarh has emerged as a regional hub in the areas of service industry, education, health, information technology, etc.
