Chandigarh, July 21
The US News and World Report — a global authority in rankings and consumer advice — has ranked Panjab University as the 10th best educational institution in India and 737 globally for 2024-25. The university has been ranked 213 among universities in Asia.
A total of 2,172 educational institutions were ranked on 13 parameters, including research indices, academic programmes, facilities, academic peer perception, high impact publications and citations based on the data for five-year period of 2018-2022. This is a marked improvement over its rank in 2022-23, wherein it was ranked 759 globally out of 2,000 universities, claimed the university authorities.
Earlier this year in June, the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) had ranked the university among the top 4 per cent of higher education institutions globally for the year 2023-24 in the survey of 21,000 institutions, representing the largest academic ranking of global universities. The CWUR survey had also ranked PU as 10th best institution in India. Globally, it has been ranked 527 in quality of education imparted and a research rank of 794, with an overall score of 71.6.
These rankings were based on four parameters: education, employability, faculty and research, with equal emphasis on student-related and faculty-related indicators. The university also achieved the 10th rank in India among government universities in the recent survey by Education World (EW), India 2024, with a score of 1,125.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Renu Vig congratulated the faculty, students and staff for their pivotal contributions in bringing PU on the path of revitalisation. She attributed these improvements to the dedication and sincerity of the various stakeholders, which is helping PU realise its true potential. She shared that the university was operating strategically, developing an institutional development plan (IDP), which is in sync with its commitment to contribute significantly towards ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision by 2047.
