Two held in Sector 32 firing case; pistols seized
Over 48 hours after gunshots were fired in Sector 32, injuring two persons, the District Crime Cell (DCC) of the Chandigarh Police arrested two suspects and recovered illegal weapons from their possession.
The incident occurred on October 1 when Rajesh, a taxi business operator from Nayagaon, was at the Sector 32 taxi stand with his associates — Rajat Tiwari, Honey Bhardwaj, Akashdeep and Tarun. During this time, the suspects, identified as Dheeraj Sharma, alias Sunny (31), and Sukhwinder Singh, alias Kali (29), approached Rajesh, and demanded money.
An argument ensued, after which Sunny allegedly instructed Kali to eliminate Rajesh. According to the police, Kali opened fire, injuring Rajesh on the hand and Honey on the neck. The suspects fled from the spot after the incident.
Both the victims were taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, and a case was registered at the Sector 34 police station. The police conducted raids and apprehended both the suspects and recovered two country-made pistols along with three live cartridges from them.
The police said both the suspects had criminal records. Sunny had five cases registered against him, including two under the NDPS Act, registered in Chandigarh and Mohali. Two cases were registered against Kali. “The suspects are habitual consumers of drugs. To fulfil their needs, they commit crime in Chandigarh and the adjourning areas,” the police said.
