Truck driver arrested for fatal accident that killed Chandigarh couple
The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested Sukhwindar Singh, a truck driver from Dholann village in Jagraon Tehsil, for causing a fatal accident that claimed the lives of a young couple from Chandigarh.
According to investigating officer Rajinderpal Singh, the victims, 19-year-old Akash and his girlfriend Puja, were on their way to pay their respects at a Dera in Nakodar on September 9 when the accused driver’s truck hit their two-wheeler in Shankar village. Akash died on the spot, while Puja succumbed to her injuries at a Jalandhar hospital.
Dhian Singh, Akash’s uncle and a resident of Sector 56, Chandigarh, had filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case against the accused driver under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving on a public road), 125A, 125(B) (causing grievous hurt) and 324(4) (mischief) of the BNS.
The police have taken the accused into custody, and further investigation is underway.
