Times ratings: Panjab University stays put in 601-800 bracket in rankings
The Panjab University has again been placed in the 601-800 bracket in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, 2025, announced on Wednesday. The university got an overall score of 38.2-43.2. Out of the five areas — teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry, the university’s score has improved in every category, except research quality. While the institution scored 67.9 in last year’s rankings, its score in research quality, which holds 30 per cent weightage, dipped to 65.6.
The PU scored 35.7 in teaching while it had scored 32.6 points in the last rankings.
In research environment as well, the university took a short leap and got 18 compared to 16.2 of the previous rankings. Similarly, under the industry and international outlook parameter, the institution scored 41.6 and 23.9 in comparison to 39.2 and 23.5 in the last rankings.
In the clinical and health category, the PU maintained its previous year’s performance by staying in the 301-400 bracket and improved its position in the physical sciences category by rising up to the 601-800 bracket while it was in the 801-1000 bracket in the previous rankings.
In the computer science category, the university landed in the 601-800 bracket from 501-600 in the last rankings and every year since 2019.
In the category of engineering, it came down to the 801-1000 bracket while it had always been in 601-800 since 2019.
How other varsities in region fared
Chitkara University also featured in the current rankings in the 601-800 band.
The university has been placed in an overall score bracket of 38.2-43.2, followed by 20.6 points in teaching, 11.4 in research environment, 88.9 in research quality, 20.0 in industry and 28.6 in international look. Pro-Chancellor Madhu Chitkara congratulated the faculty and staff.
Shoolini University emerged among the top 500 universities of the world. The research-focused university has been placed in the 401-500 band up from the 501-600 bracket in 2023.
It stood out with a score of 47.42.
Meanwhile, Thapar University, Patiala, also ranked in the 601-800 bracket, while IIT-Ropar got placed in the 801-1000 band.
