Three minors among 8 nabbed for e-rickshaw driver’s murder
The police have nabbed eight persons, including three juveniles, for the murder of an e-rickshaw driver, allegedly a case of mistaken identity, at the Amartex Chowk here on October 12.
The suspects were identified as Ajay, Umesh Yadav, Vishal Yadav, Kishan and Chhotu and three boys, all residents of Mauli Jagran in Chandigarh. They were presented in a court which sent them in judicial custody.
The murder took place on October 12, the day of Dasehra, when the deceased, Pushpendra, and his relative Chaman Prakash, along with their families, were on their way to Sector 15 on e-rickshaws.
In a complaint to the police, Chaman stated that they were going to attend the Dasehra celebrations in Sector 15 when on the way, his e-rickshaw collided with a truck as it had stopped all of sudden. None of the occupants of the e-rickshaw was hurt.
Meanwhile, Pushpendra, who had gone ahead, returned to check on Chaman and his family. Chaman said, “Some unidentified youths, who were riding a bike, mistook Pushpendra for the truck driver and attacked him with sharp weapons and stones. He was hit on his waist and head. We managed to free him from the youths. The truck driver had fled the spot.” The injured Pushpendra was taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 where doctors declared him dead.
A case was registered at the Sector 20 police station. Bachhu Singh, SHO, Sector 20 police station, said further investigation in the case was on.
