Panchkula, June 12

There were hardly any spectators at the handball semifinals, while the basketball court and boxing rings reverberated with applause. The handball teams of Haryana, both girls and boys, were playing semifinal matches but got little support from the stands, despite being the hosts.

In the semifinal match against Delhi, the Haryana girls won comprehensively, while the boys’ team clutched a close game against Uttar Pradesh. “We need the media to promote the game on television. The game is not gaining much attention from public, while games like basketball and boxing are drawing crowds,” said an official at the KIYG.
