Tejaswani G of Tamil Nadu registered a one-point win over Punjab’s Shreathi Gupta during the Round 1 of the girls’ U-17 category on the opening day of the 34th National Chess Championship at Panjab University here today.

Sneha Haider of West Bengal also moved forward by defeating Anandhi of Karnataka, while Sannidhi Ramakrishna of Maharashtra ousted Kanishka Chaudhary of Madhya Pradesh.

Anupam Sreekumar defeated Kashvay Sabarwal, Sherali Pattnaik defeated Deesha Mishra and Nivedeta VC outplayed Haryana’s Rijak Kaur.

Ashita Jain played a draw against Alankrita Sharma, while Rajanya Datta defeated Sasi Hasini. Kamya Kumari and Akshaya Sethi also moved ahead by defeating Patil Divya and Sanchee Sahoo, respectively.

In the open U-17 Round 1, Maharashtra’s Bagwe Gurang logged a one-point win over Jess Runchandani. In other matches, Jaiveer Mahendru ousted Srikar GVB, Vignesh of Telangana defeated Abeer, Nandish ousted Armaan Singh Bakshi and Gujarat’s Mukund Agarwal defeated local challenger Angad Singh by identical score.

Jaidambareesh NR defeated Prabal Pandey, Koustav Dash outplayed Arnav Bhatia and Jihan Tejas Shah got the better of Pazhany Kaushal Kohli in the last three matches.
