Hundreds of protesters under the banner of the 5994 Unemployed Teachers’ Union and 2364 Union of ETT Cadre continued their protest on the fifth day in Mohali today by blocking the Phase-7-8 intersection near Amb Sahib gurdwara for close to three hours in support of their demands.

Road users had to take detours due to the protest as cops redirected them. Sukhjit Singh Mattu, a representative of the union, said, “The officials of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains call us for meeting but do not meet.” He added that the protesting teachers had appeared in the test twice, but the government was still delaying in handing them joining letters.

The protesters rued that despite the government promise, no senior official of the department has met them and apprised them of the status of their demands. The protesters are staging a sit-in near the Director Public Instructions (Elementary Education) office in Mohali for the past five days.

They have been demanding joining letters for three months now after having cleared the written exam earlier this year.
