Teachers block road at Kharar
Mohali: Members of the National Skills Qualifications Framework Vocational Teachers’ Union staged a protest against the Congress-led state government, seeking regularisation of their job, near the Kharar bus stand on Wednesday. The protesters blocked the road and raised slogans against the Channi government. Residents alleged that daily protests were causing them a great inconvenience. TNS
Zirakpur youth held for rape
Zirakpur: The police arrested a Zirakpur youth for allegedly raping a 22-year-old on Tuesday. The suspect has been identified as Ajay Pandit, a resident of slum area on the Patiala road. In her police statement, the complainant stated that her neighbour dragged her to his place and raped her. When she raised the alarm, people, including her parents, gathered and nabbed him. TNS
Three nabbed for assaulting man
Chandigarh: Three persons were arrested for assaulting a Sector 22 resident and snatching his belongings. According to the police, complainant Parveen Duggal reported that three persons assaulted him near Nehru Park in Sector 22 and snatched his mobile phone and a purse. A case was registered against Nandu Lal Turi (23), Sinod Mandal (22) and Kabira Kumar (22), all natives of Jharkhand. TNS
Labourer falls to death, 1 held
Chandigarh: The police have arrested the owner of a tent house after a labourer died after falling from the lift of the tent house at Kajehri village. Complainant Deepak Yadav reported that the labourer, Ganesh Mehta (49), died after falling from the lift of Dhiman tent house on December 27. The police have registered a case against the tent house owner, Harkesh Singh, alias Kesar Singh. TNS
AAP sounds poll bugle in Mohali
Mohali: A day after gettingnominated by the Aam Aadmi Party as its candidate from the Mohali constituency, former Mayor Kulwant Singh sounded the poll bugle on Wednesday. He said people of Punjab wanted to see a change after witnessing the ‘corrupt rule’ of the Congress, the BJP and the SAD. Chandigarh: Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, won the Panjab University Inter-College Sepak Takraw (Women) Championship, here on Wednesday. Panjab University Campus claimed the second position and Post Gradate Government College, Sector 46, finished third. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, won the Inter-College Sepak Takraw (Men) Championship. Electronics shop burgled
Zirakpur: Thieves broke into an electronics shop in Baltana and stole goods worth Rs20 lakh, including around 100 mobile phones, a refrigerator and an LCD, and Rs1.5 lakh in the wee hours of Wednesday. Shop owner Sumit said CCTV footage showed thieves entering the shop around 2 am and leaving after an hour. TNS
