Swachh Survekshan: Chandigarh up from rank 20 to 16; Panchkula ranked 56, Mohali 157

Chandigarh was ranked 16th in the central government’s cleanliness survey announced on Thursday.
The city was ranked the 20th cleanest city in the survey last year. In 2018, it stood third.
Panchkula improved its ranking in the survey for the fourth year in a row. The city was ranked 56th – an improvement of 15 positions from the 71st spot in the previous year. While the city stood at 142 in the 2018 survey, it was placed at 211th position in 2017.
Panchkula also bagged the third spot in Haryana in this year’s survey. While Karnal bagged the first place in the state, Rohtak stood second.
Mohali slipped to 157th spot in Swachh Survekshan 2020 from 153 last year.
While Mohali stood at 109th position in the cleanliness rankings in 2018, it was ranked 121 in 2017.
Mohali is the 7th cleanest city in Punjab out of the total of 14 covered under the survey.
Indore was adjudged India’s cleanest city for the fourth straight year.
The second and third positions in the category were grabbed by Surat and Navi Mumbai respectively.
The Swachh Survekshan awards 2020 were announced by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at a ceremony. PTI
