SUV driver fires shots in Mohali road rage incident

The unidentified driver of an SUV fired multiple shots at police party and a fellow commuter after a road rage incident near Landran during the wee hours on Tuesday.

The complainant, Gurpreet Singh, one of the panch of Landran village, told the police that the flare-up took place on the Landran road when his vehicle brushed another SUV.

The driver stepped out of his vehicle and allegedly fired at him, while a woman sitting inside the car hurled abuses at him. The duo fled the spot soon after.

After receiving the complaint, police launched an investigation. When the cops tracked the vehicle down to Prime City, Sector 127, Kharar, the miscreants allegedly fired at Gurpreet as well as the police party.

Both the car driver and the woman accompanying him fled the spot.

Police have recovered two empty bullet shells from the spot and impounded the SUV, a Ford Endeavour.

Multiple teams have been formed teams to arrest the absconding duo.

Superintendent of police (City) Harbir Singh Atwal said, “The suspect fired gunshots twice, once at the complainant and again when the police party went to arrest the accused. We will nab him soon.”

A case under Sections 125, 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act has been registered at the Sohana police station.

Police have also recorded the complainant’s statement. Those privy to the details said the suspect has been identified as Amrik Singh, a resident of Kharar, who has a prior case registered against him. Cops are also investigating whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
