The newly elected PUCSC president Anurag Dalal is not new to the business.

Anurag, who was elected as president of student council in Delhi University’s Deen Dyal Upadhyaya College for 2016-17, promised students’ welfare at Panjab University. The winner, who claimed to have his roots with Congress, opted to leave its student wing NSUI as he didn’t want to be part of any rat race to please the political bosses.

“A student has been elected to the council’s helm instead of a rubber stamp candidate, who would have worked on orders of some mainstream political party,” he said.

When asked whether it will be feasible to work with other three council members, who are all from different groups, he said, “It is not about party politics or pulling each other’s leg. We are here with the mandate of students and we will ensure that everything is done for their benefit, rather than indulging in petty politics.”

“Our motto was student welfare and I assure everyone that after the win, it shall remain the same,” said Anurag after his historic win today. He added that while other parties focused on show-off, they focused on real-time interaction with the students on the campus. “We went amongst the students and told them what we stand for and what we will accomplish once we get elected to the council,” he added.

“Our team worked in a much organised manner and no department or student was ignored. Unlike other candidates, we did not focus solely on particular department because of its strength,” he said. Stating that they did not have huge funds and resources like other parties and candidates, he added, “Multiple meetings were held with the students and no unfair means were undertaken to achieve the goal to win the election.”
