Strawberry Fields-26, St Joseph’s win TT titles

The boys’ U-15 team of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, and the girls’ U-15 team of St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, won their respective titles during the ongoing 37th Chandigarh State Table Tennis Championships at the Sector 50 sports complex.

In the boys’ U-15 final, the Sector 26-based school defeated St Anne’s School, Sector 32, after a see-saw battle. In the opening game, Kairav recorded a comeback 6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 win over Aarav, while Aarush doubled the lead of the Sector 26 team by registering an 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 win over Aarav. In the doubles event, Aarav and Aarav defeated Kairav and Parth 11-13, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8 and in the following match, Aarav defeated Aarush 11-8, 11-9, 8-11,11-8 to level the scores.

In the final singles game, Kairav of Sector 26 held his nerves and defeated Aarav 11-13, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 12-10 to win the title. Earlier, in the semifinals, Strawberry lads beat St Joseph’s School, while the Sector 32 team defeated Delhi Public School, Sector 40.

In the girls’ final, the Sector 44 team ousted Delhi Public School without facing any trouble. Vani defeated Bhavani11-4, 11-3, 11-7, Teetiksha ousted Sherell 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 and in the doubles event, the pair of Vani and Pratiti defeated Saanvi and Arshi 11-6, 11-8, 11-3. In the semis, the Sector 44 team defeated St Anne’s and Delhi Public School defeated St Stephen’s School, Sector 45.

Rayaan, Trishi win

Rayaan overpowered a tough challenge by Ojas to win the boys’ U-11 singles event. He logged an 11-8, 7-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-3 win over his rival to claim the title. Trishi also struggled hard before logging an 11-13, 16-14, 2-11, 11-8, 11-7 win over Tisha to win the girl’s U-11 final. Ojas and Arpit won the boys’ doubles U-13 final by defeating Parth and Japishit 12-10, 8-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6. Garvita and Trishi won the girls’ U-13 doubles title by defeating Pratiti and Anushka 14-12, 6-11, 11-1, 7-11, 11-5.
