The 12th meeting of the sub-committee of Administrator’s Advisory Council of Sports had nothing new to discuss beyond synthetic athletic track, Sector 7, and disbursal of cash awards, which had already been discussed in the last few meetings, ahead of the Advisory Council meeting to be held on September 14.

In this meeting held under the chairmanship of Sanjay Tandon, the attendees once again discussed initiatives taken by the Sports Department during the last one year, including the launch of the maiden sports policy and inauguration of Sector 7 synthetic athletic track. Disbursal of cash awards to 311 international and national medallists, held last month, was discussed along with online disbursal of benefits to sportspersons.

Meanwhile, a total of 22 local associations claimed to have attended the meeting. Like previous meetings, the sports associations acknowledged the steps taken by the Sports Department and assured full support to the department. “During the meeting, they highlighted some shortcomings such as shortage of equipment, coaches and hostel facilities for the players,” said a communique by the UT Administration.

The meeting found no mention of certain associations getting exclusive benefits from the UT Administration, claimed a source. The associations further demanded a world-class multipurpose hall in Chandigarh so that various notational and international sports events of indoor games could be conducted under one roof. This demand came when the Administration already had more than 19 facilities for different disciplines across the city.

Like the previous meeting, it was decided that the sub-committee would meet at least once a year to take their feedback.
